This section introduces Frontier to someone who has never seen it. First, Frontier is described in general terms. What sort of a program is it? What does it do? What sort of task might one use it for? Next, its user interface is introduced, including the different sorts of windows the user will encounter, how to work with them, and the keyboard shortcuts that are not listed in the menus. Also discussed is the database that is the basis of so much of Frontier's power.
On the whole, the purpose of this section is, as its title says, to acquaint the reader with Frontier. After reading this section and playing with Frontier a little, even a complete beginner will be comfortable with the program and ready to learn to put it to work.
Because the reader of this section is assumed to be a total beginner, much of the material here is deliberately elementary and even sketchy. Technical details are almost completely omitted; they are provided in later parts of the book. The intent is to tell you enough to get you started and no more.
